Customer Interviews No. 1

1). Recently, I have had more trouble getting to the grocery store due to a busy schedule and being on crutches. However, I realized that I have always had to force myself to get to the store. So, my opportunity came from seeing how other see the hassle of grocery shopping. I believe my opportunity arises with with the option of a delivery truck around campus with groceries in order to cut time and transportation issues in going to the grocery store.

2). I decided to interview other students like myself on UF campus to see if they dealt with groceries differently than I do.

3). My questions were as follows:
What year are you and do you live on campus?
How often do you find yourself lacking groceries in your dorm/apartment?
About how long does it take you to get to your nearest grocery store?
Does this influence how often you grocery shop?
Do you order food or go out to eat because of this lack of groceries?
Do you feel like you meet your dietary needs or wants by ordering food or do you feel like you could be healthier if groceries were more convenient?

4). See videos

5). I believe that the opportunity from this could be effective. Most people complained about health and the inconvenience of groceries and therefore, bringing the groceries to them (not in a delivery company fashion) I believe would work.

6). I became more comfortable talking to people as I continued my interviews. I was uncomfortable at first, but then I realized that these people are like me, and that there was nothing to be nervous about. I approached people who were not on the phone and who seemed happy and not too rude. I actually began to enjoy the process and was able to see how important these are to an entrepreneurial concept.

  1. Wow! It seems that your idea is really popular with students considering the last student that I peer reviewed had a similar one. Both your videos exposed a demand for this type of service that should be taken advantage of. I like how your questions were thorough to the point where people elicited personal and helpful responses. Great job, you can find my post here:

  2. Emily,
This is really a great idea! I think that you should definitely put this plan into action with a few test customers and see what they think. I know personally that if there was a truck that went around campus and delivered groceries to people, I would have used it multiple times instead of taking the bus 30 minutes away, getting the food, then having to come back another 30 minutes. I think if you charged 10-15% on each delivery, you could make a considerable amount of money doing this. The only potential problem I see in this idea is the fact that Publix is building and opening up a store just of the NE side of campus, right near McDonalds and Krispy Kreme. This could eliminate the need for people to use your service to buy groceries. Just a thought! Keep up the great work! 3. I get the impression that the guy who was driving to Chick-fil-a for dinner, could have easily gone to the grocery store. I think the issue is students being unable or unwilling to deal with the hassle of cooking (as opposed to grocery shopping). Delivery is a good thing, there is a cookie delivery business near UF that has a cult following. I think you should focus on things that a drunk freshman needs at 2am -- Beer, wine, salted snacks, and prophylactics. I think those things are prime for delivery at night when many people either don't want to drive, or are too intoxicated to do so.
